About This Museum
A free, public online museum about Bitcoin and decentralized technology. We turn a history scattered across papers, code, mailing lists and on-chain records into exhibits anyone can understand. The museum is independent of any project, exchange or token; we do not promote, endorse or sell any financial product. We do one thing only: document this history objectively and verifiably — its milestones as well as its controversies, failures and lessons.
Editorial Policy
How we decide what to include:
- Sourced — every claim is tied where possible to a source (whitepaper, paper, commit, court filing, on-chain tx).
- Traceable — first-hand authoritative sources over second-hand retellings.
- Both sides recorded — breakthroughs and incidents, booms and busts, ideals and abuses, together; no "good-news-only" promotion.
- Restrained interpretation — on open questions we lay out competing evidence and leave the conclusion to you.
Sources & Data Methodology
On-chain data (blocks, transactions, addresses, timestamps) comes from public blockchains and public APIs; documents and events from publicly published primary materials. On-chain data is labeled with block height or UTC time. Fiat amounts generally refer to prices at the time of the event and do not reflect current value. Sources may disagree on early events; we cross-check and flag disputes where we can.
Corrections Policy
We make mistakes and welcome corrections. If you find a factual error, broken link, mislabeled source or disputed statement, tell us via our feedback channel with your evidence. We correct errors once we have verified them.
