MCP · Read-only access

Use the museum in your AI assistant

The museum offers a read-only MCP endpoint. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the common way AI assistants connect to outside sources: add the museum’s address to an assistant that supports it, such as Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, and it can look up our halls, exhibits, library documents, glossary terms and FAQs, with links to the museum pages in its answers. No sign-up or API key needed.

Quickest way

Send this to your AI

Paste it into the chat. Assistants that can run commands, such as Claude Code or Cursor, can usually set it up for you; Claude and ChatGPT on the web will tell you where to add it.

Please connect me to the BTC.com Museum MCP server.
URL: https://btc.com/api/mcp (Streamable HTTP, read-only, no sign-in)
Once it’s connected, when I ask about the history, people or ideas of Bitcoin and blockchains, look them up with its search tool first, read the items you use with fetch, and include links to the museum pages in your answer.

Add it yourself

Prefer to set it up yourself? Pick your assistant:

  1. Open Settings → Connectors.
  2. Choose “Add custom connector”, give it any name (e.g. “BTC Museum”), paste the address below and click Add.
  3. When you use it, turn it on from the tools menu in the chat box.

On Team and Enterprise plans an owner adds it under Admin settings → Connectors first; members then connect it under Settings → Connectors.

Menu names change between versions; if you can’t find one, check the assistant’s help pages.

How it works

Once it’s connected, ask as usual. When your assistant needs sources, it looks things up in the museum, reads the items, and answers with links to the museum pages.

What it gives you

Search the halls and the collection

Narrative items, exhibits, documents, glossary terms, FAQs, the whitepaper sections and blog articles, in Chinese or English.

Sources included

Full items come with the sources the museum cites, so you can check the original material.

Links to the exact item

Every result links to the museum page and lands on the exhibit, document or term itself.

Read-only, no sign-in

No account or key needed. Your assistant can read, but can’t change anything.

Then try asking

Click a question to copy it. Mentioning “use the BTC Museum” helps your assistant think of it.

FAQ

Does it cost anything, or need an account?

No. It’s free, with no sign-up and no key.

Can my assistant change the museum’s content?

No. The endpoint is read-only and has no way to write anything.

Will the answers always be right?

Not necessarily; assistants still misread things and make mistakes. The museum provides sourced material, so for anything important, open the links and go by the museum page and the original sources.

How current is it?

It follows the website: once the museum publishes something, the next search finds it. Live figures such as prices or block height aren’t included.

Can the museum see my conversation with the assistant?

No. Your assistant only sends the keywords or item ids it looks up. The museum keeps those keywords to improve the search and fill gaps in the collection (emails and phone numbers removed, no IP addresses, deleted after 90 days).

Please note

  • When you use museum content, please link to the museum page.
  • Some images can only be shown on the museum’s own pages because of licensing; the endpoint describes them in text instead of giving their address.
  • This endpoint does not provide live prices, price predictions or investment advice; use a market data site for those.
  • The endpoint is rate-limited; please don’t bulk-download it.
For developersTools and parameters, response formats, ids and rate limits are in the technical documentation.
